Garrotxa means "rough lands of bad tracks" in Catalan. The area is marked by deep valleys enclosed by high limestone cliffs. Its abrupt relief gives the region its particularity: a remote area long time isolated from the rest
of the country offering very scarce human settlements scattered in the middle of a preserved environment of deep forests and crystal clear rivers.
Alta Garrotxa was declared Space of Natural Interest and Zone of Special Protection for Birds in the Nature Network 2000. The landscapes are spectacular, not just for the magnificence of nature but also for the richness of its architectural and cultural heritage: archaeological caves, Romanesque churches, traditional farmhouses, hermitages, picturesque hamlets, charcoal sites...
Transfer from airport or train station (coach, taxi or personal vehicle) to the village of Camprodon or Setcases in the valley
of the Ter river at the foot of the Pyrenees.
Following a shepherds' path to a mountain pass (altitude 1700 m) by the Costabona peak. Panoramic descent to the village of Molló. Accommodation in a comfortable hotel.
Down a remote valley to the vestiges of Rocabruna castle. Amazing final trail along the river to the wonderful village
of Beget, characteristic of the traditional Catalan architecture.
Along secret paths used by generations of tradesmen, smugglers and highwaymen. Detour to a mysterious hermitage. Dinner and night in the countryside atmosphere of the village of Oix.
This is the climax of the tour! Hiking from deep valleys to the top
of vertiginous cliffs to discover the abandoned hamlet of Talaixà and the spectacular gorges of Sant Aniol. Transfer to Besalú.
Commented visit of the town (roman vestiges and medieval architecture), classified as National Monument of Catalonia. Farewell lunch and transfer back to your next destination.
